- Detects total Tau
- Validated for serum, plasma, and other biological fluids
- 96-well breakaway strip format; intra-assay CV <8%; inter-assay CV <10%
- Broad neurodegeneration marker — pairs with ENZ-KIT273/274 (Aβ42/40) for comprehensive AD biomarker profiling; also applicable to TBI, CJD, and neurological injury research
The Human Total Tau ELISA Kit is a quantitative sandwich immunoassay detecting total Tau in serum, plasma, and other biological fluids. This kit supports research into Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, progressive supranuclear palsy, CTE, and traumatic brain injury.
Tau (MAPT) is a microtubule-associated protein expressed predominantly in axons, where it stabilizes microtubule polymerization. In disease, Tau becomes hyperphosphorylated, dissociates from microtubules, and aggregates into paired helical filaments — the neurofibrillary tangles that define Alzheimer’s disease and other tauopathies (PSP, CBD, FTD-tau, CTE). Total Tau in CSF is elevated in conditions of neuronal damage, reflecting axonal degeneration rather than tauopathy per se. The combination of reduced CSF Aβ42 and elevated CSF total Tau (T-tau) and phospho-Tau (P-tau181) constitutes the classical AD biomarker signature. CSF T-tau: healthy adults ~150–300 pg/mL; AD: typically >400 pg/mL.
