Immunosuppressant

Ascomycin is a close structural analog of FK506 and is a potent immunosuppressant. It binds to FKBP (FK506-binding protein) and suppresses its proline rotamase activity. The ascomycin-FKBP complex inhibits calcineurin, a type 2B phosphatase.
