Exerts trophic and protective effects on neurons

Bilobalide is a terpenoid isolated from Ginkgo biloba. It has been proposed to exert trophic and protective effects on neurons. It increases the sensitivity of mouse pancreatic β cells to glucose and displays protective effects during hypoxia.
