Urea is a waste product formed in the liver as a result of protein metabolism and is excreted by the kidneys. It is the primary means of nitrogen excretion in mammals. Thus, measuring urea levels can provide information about kidney function or other metabolic conditions. AkrivisBio’s Urea Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure the concentration of urea in a variety of biological samples. In this assay, urea is hydrolyzed by the urease to ammonia, which via a series of reactions results in the formation of hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is then utilized by the peroxidase to oxidize ADHP thereby resulting in the formation of intense color measured at OD 570 nm. The assay sensitivity is 0.1-0.2 nmol of urea per well.
