Sulforaphane is a phase II enzyme inducer present in brocolli. It was found to inhibit chemically induced mammary tumor formation in rats. R,S-sulforaphane is a synthetic compound. Inhibits benzo[a]pyrene-DNA and 1,6-dinitropyrene-DNA adducts formation. Inducer of quinone reductase and glutathione S-transferase. Exerts dose-dependent cytotoxicity, inhibits quiescent cells to re-enter the cell cycle, and induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in human colon adenocarcinoma HT29 cells. Inhibitor of phase I cytochrome P450 isoenzymes 2E1 andd 1A2. Inducer of multidrug restistance assocated protein 2 in primary rat and human heptocytes.
