K⁺ channel blocker

Paxilline is an indole alkaloid isolated from Penicillium paxilli. It is a selective and reversible blocker of the smooth muscle high conductance Ca²⁺-activated K⁺ (maxi-K) channel (70% block at 10 nM). In neutrophils, Paxilline blockage of BK_Ca channels decreased the alkalinization of phagocytic vacuoles and inhibited the microbicidal process. Inhibitor of the cerebellar inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate (InsP(3)) receptor.
