L(+)-Lactate is formed in animals by the action of the enzyme Lactate Dehydrogenase. L-Lactate is the major lactate stereoisomer formed in human metabolism and D-Lactate is present at much lower levels (~1-5% of L-Lactate). L-Lactate plays an important role in many biological processes. High lactate concentrations are associated with pathological conditions such as diabetes and lactic acidosis. AkrivisBio’s L-Lactate Assay is a simple, colorimetric assay to measure Lactate in various biological samples. In this assay, L-lactate is oxidized by L-Lactate Dehydrogenase to form pyruvate and NADH. NADH then reduces WST, a readily reducible nearly colorless tetrazolium to a highly colored formazan measured at OD 450 nm. This assay is useful for detecting L(+)-Lactate at concentrations of 0.05 to 20 mM. There is no need for pretreatment or purification of samples.
