IPTG mimicks allolactose, a metabolite of lactose. IPTG is used to trigger protein expression where the gene is under the control of the lac operon. IPTG can be used along X-Gal (Prod. No. ALX-582-002) to detect the activity of the lac gene in cloning experiments.
