A phenolic compound isolated from Magnolia officinalis. It has many interesting biological activities. It inhibits leukotriene synthesis, protects rat heart mitochondria and liver from peroxidative injury, has anxiolytic and antiarrhythmic effects. It also possesses antimicrobial and antifungal activity. It was found to induce apoptosis in human squamous lung cancer CH27 cells.
