The anti-HLA-DR antibody detects human HLA-DR, a major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II cell surface receptor expressed on antigen-presenting cells. This antibody is optimized for use in immunohistochemistry (IHC).

HLA-DR is a heterodimeric protein that belongs to the MHC class II family and is predominantly expressed on professional antigen-presenting cells, including dendritic cells, macrophages, and B cells. It plays a central role in adaptive immunity by presenting extracellular antigens to CD4+ T cells, initiating an immune response. HLA-DR is critical for immune system function and is widely studied in the context of autoimmune diseases, transplantation immunology, and infectious diseases. Dysregulation of HLA-DR expression is associated with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and chronic inflammatory disorders. Additionally, HLA-DR is often upregulated in activated microglia, making it a key marker for studying neuroinflammation in diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
