Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is the primary cause of non-A, non-B hepatitis and results in most HCV-infected people developing chronic infections, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The 21kDa core protein of HCV is well conserved among different HCV genotypes and may suppress hepatitis B virus replication in a phosphorylation dependent manner.

ALX-804-277 Hepatitis C core protein monoclonal antibody (C7-50) Western Blot Hepatitis C virus 1 — NS5A stability of H77C(1a) mutants.Amounts of NS5A were compared to Core after spread of infection to >80% of Huh7.5 cells transfected with H77C(1a) and P346A/P351A/P354A, Δ414-428 or “Δ414-428+20aa” mutants. (A) Western blots from a representative experiment of NS5A (56/58 kDa for original), and Core (21 kDa) detected with antibodies H26 (Abcam) and C7-50 (Enzo Life Science), respectively. (B) Ratios between NS5A/Core were calculated after subtraction of background using ImageJ and normalized to the original H77C(1a). Values from two independent transfection experiments are shown.
