Potent iron chelator

Iron chelator. Inhibits ferric ion catalyzed formation of hydroxyl radicals. A very potent ligand for the chelation of ferric iron in vivo (active in rat models but inactive in primate models). Inhibits neutrophil apoptosis. An important tool for probing the involvement of hydroxyl radicals in cellular processes.
