- MPTP inhibitor used in cellular metabolism studies
Decylubiquinone is an analogue of ubiquinone. Decylubiquinone inhibits the Ca2+-dependent mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPTP) without inhibiting respiration. Maximum effect on Ca2+ retention capacity of rat liver mitochondria can be achieved with decylubiquinone at 100μM. This inhibitory effect of decylubiquinone on MPTP can be counteracted by ubiquinone-5 (Prod. No. ALX-270-294). Decylubiquinone also inhibits etoposide-induced apoptosis in in L929 cells at 5μM.
