- Rapid and selective inhibitor of Myosin II ATPase
- Used in cardiovascular research
- Highly cited
Blebbistatin (so named because of its ability to block cell blebbing) is a rapid, selective, and high-affinity (IC50 approx. 4 µM) inhibitor of non-muscle myosin II ATPase activity. During cell division, blebbistatin inhibits contraction of the cleavage furrow without disrupting mitosis. Blebbistatin impedes cell migration and cytokinesis. Blebbistatin also reduces infiltration of inflammatory cells, inhibits pancreatic adenocarcinoma cellular invasiveness, PDGF-stimulated fibroblast-collagen matrix contraction, and diminishes harm to vascular system in models of arterial thrombosis in vivo.
