AMPCPR is an ADPR mimic with improved hydrolytic stability, suitable for the characterization and crystallization of NUDIX hydrolases. NUDIX hydrolases are a superfamily of hydrolytic enzymes capable of cleaving nucleoside diphosphates linked to another moiety X. Within the superfamily, several categories are classified based on their substrate specificities, like the MutT family hydrolases, the ADPR pyrophosphatases, the NADH hydrolases, and the ApnA hydrolases. AMPCPR was reported to interact with the nudix-type motif 9 (NUDT9)-homolog domain of transient receptor potential melastatin 2 (TRPM2), a frequently studied cation channel involved in multiple physiologic and pathophysiologic processes.
