A second generation bisphosphonate used as bone resorptive inhibitor.  It induces apoptosis of rabbit osteoclasts, human osteoclastoma-derived isteiclasts and human osteollclast-like cells in vitro.  The promotion of apoptosis of OCLs is related to the expression of FAS gene.
