Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is an enzyme also known as SGPT (serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase), and is found in serum and several tissues, predominantly in liver cells. High levels of ALT in the blood is an indication of liver damage or disease and is as part of a differential diagnostic test. AkrivisBio’s ALT Assay is a simple and sensitive assay to measure ALT enzyme activity in a variety of biological samples. In this assay, alanine and α-ketoglutarate are converted to pyruvate and glutamate in the presence of ALT. Pyruvate is then oxidized forming hydrogen peroxide, which is utilized by the peroxidase to oxidize ADHP thereby resulting in the formation of intense color or fluorescence measured at OD 570 nm or at Ex/Em = 535/587 nm respectively.
