Acetate, a molecule derived from various metabolic pathways, plays an important role in various biological processes, including energy metabolism and the synthesis of lipids. Additionally, acetate is a signaling molecule regulating gene expression and cellular processes. In AkrivisBio’s Acetate Assay, acetate is phosphorylated, converting ATP to ADP. ADP is used to convert glucose to glucose-6-phosphate, which in turn is used to convert NAD to NADH. The NADH then reduces a nearly colorless tetrazolium to a highly colored formazan measured at OD 450 nm. The level of acetate quantitation is <1 nmole/well, equivalent to concentrations in the order of 20 μM in tested samples. Acetate assay helps in understanding acetate levels assessing microbial activity, and evaluating metabolic changes in various physiological and pathological conditions.
