
Aristolochic acids are the active ingredients responsible for the hepatoxicity and renal toxicity of the Oriental herb Aristolochic fangchi [1,2]. They form DNA adducts in renal tissue and is associated with urothelial carcinoma formation [3-5]. They are known to induce hepatic nodules and forestomach tumors in rats [6,7].
