LXR ligand

Endogenous agonist for the nuclear receptor LXR. Important metabolite of cholesterol in the brain. Displays neurotoxic effects on human neuroblastoma cells. Cerebrospinal fluid concentrations of 24(S)-hydroxycholesterol are increased in patients with Alzheimer’s disease and mild cognitive impairment.
