α-Galactosidase hydrolyzes α-galactosyl residues found in glycolipids, polysaccharides and glycoproteins. In mammals, α-Galacto-sidase is produced by the pancreas and released into the small intestine, where it hydrolyzes galactosides from dietary sources. AkrivisBio’s α-Galactosidase Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive means of monitoring α-Galactosidase activity in biological samples. In the assay a synthetic substrate is acted on by α-Galactosidase releasing a fluorophore measured at Ex/Em = 360/445 nm. The α-galactosidase activity assay is a valuable research tool to study genetic disorders involving α-galactosidase deficiencies such as Fabry disease, and the development of potential therapeutic agents that modulate α-galactosidase activity.
