A CLIA, or chemiluminescent immunoassay, is more sensitive than an EIA (enzyme immunoassay) and is used when samples contain very low concentrations of an analyte that are below EIA detection levels. CLIAs also offer the advantage of allowing the user to dilute samples to a point where the matrix effect is no longer present, eliminating the need for extraction.
