Each probe is developed for use with specific hybridization and detection systems.
When customization is required, in-house probe synthesis is an option. DNA probes are easy to prepare by nick translation from supercoiled or linearized DNA or random priming. Probes labelled by nick translation are routinely employed in DNA hybridization experiments referred to as in situ hybridization (ISH), and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), and employed in screening gene banks by colony or plaque hybridization.
