Our CYTO-ID long-term cell tracer kits (ENZ-51036, ENZ-51037) use non-covalent cell labeling technology to stably incorporate the fluorescent dye containing hydrophobic aliphatic chains into the cell membrane’s lipid bilayer. Moreover, the labeling buffer is isotonic for mammalian cells and contains no detergents or organic solvents. This ensures minimal toxicity associated with the labeling process itself. We have performed extensive toxicity testing using the well-established MTT assay. We can guarantee that these dyes can be used to label cells over extended time periods with no apparent toxic effects.
