Most of the E.coli strains used in the industry and in the production of biologics are derived from K12. The E.coli host cell protein ELISA was developed from soluble proteins isolated from BL21 and K12 strains of E.coli. When doing cross-coverage experiment with the two antibodies we generated, we found more than 80% coverage. In other words, strain 1 antibody can detect more than 80% of strain 2 host cell proteins and vice versa. Because of the high immunogenicity of E.coli host cell proteins, it is anticipated that the E.coli HCP ELISA should cover most strains of E.coli.
