How can the high background be reduced?

During incubation with NBT/BCIP Reaction Mixture, localized blue-purple precipitate is formed.  Decreasing the incubation time with NBT/BCIP Reaction Mixture can reduce the build up and control the spread of the precipitate.  The spread of this blue precipitate causes background.  Also, letting the slides to dry between steps can cause high background.
