That depends mostly on fixation/embedding method and the type of ISH performed. After chromogenic ISH on FFPE or cryopreserved tissue, slides can simply be dehydrated, mounted with glass cover slips and hardening mounting media, and afterwards stored at ambient temperatures, protected from light. Sections and staining will remain stable for months to years. Fluorescent ISH requires the slides to remain hydrated, and slides should be mounted in fluorescence-preserving mounting media with glass cover slips, sealing the cover slips with varnish or similar to prevent drying out, and stored at 4°C. Sections and staining will remain stable for weeks to months.
