IDH1 (Isocitrate Dehydrogenase 1) is an enzyme found in the cytoplasm and perixosomes. IDH1 is a metabolic gene that is often mutated in human cancer. It is involved in metabolic and cellular pathways, specifically the Krebs cycle. Mutations are frequently found in diffuse low-grade gliomas and secondary glioblastomas, but rarely in primary glioblastomas. The most notable mutation in this enzyme is replacing amino acid arginine with histidine at codon 132 (R132H).
